What a Mauritius Wedding Really Costs in 2026: The Honest Numbers, Post by Post

The Article Nobody Wants to Write (But Everyone Is Searching For)

Let's Talk About Money.

We know. It's not romantic. It's not the warm breeze on your shoulders or the sand sneaking between your toes. It's not the look in each other's eyes at the moment you say "I do." It's spreadsheets, quotes, comparisons, and that nagging question that keeps you awake at three in the morning: "Can we actually afford this?"

After sixteen years working with couples who marry in Mauritius, we've seen every configuration. The elopement at two thousand euros. The hundred-person wedding at forty thousand. And everything in between. We've seen couples overspend and couples spend just right — rarely the same ones.

This guide won't tell you what to spend. It will tell you what things actually cost in 2026, line by line, without rounding the numbers to make them prettier. Because the only thing worse than going over budget is not knowing you were going to go over.

The Quick Version

Before we dive into the details, here are the three most common scenarios:

The intimate elopement (2 people, ceremony + photos): €2,000 to €5,000, excluding flights and accommodation.

The intimate wedding (20–30 guests): €8,000 to €15,000, excluding flights and guest accommodation.

The full destination wedding (50–80 guests): €15,000 to €30,000, excluding flights and guest accommodation.

For comparison, the average wedding in France in 2026 runs around €15,000 to €35,000 for a hundred guests — in a château or vineyard estate, without the Indian Ocean.

Now, let's break it down.

Line 1: The Ceremony and Reception Venue

This is the most variable line item and often the most confusing, because in Mauritius the options are radically different from what you know back home.

Option A: The Hotel Package

Most major Mauritius resorts offer all-inclusive wedding packages. You book a minimum stay (usually seven nights), and the wedding is included or offered as an add-on, with a dedicated coordinator, a ceremony venue (beach, garden, gazebo), and often extras like the bouquet, cake, or in-house photographer.

Entry-level packages start around €600 to €1,000 for a civil or symbolic ceremony for just the two of you. Premium packages, with custom décor, cocktails, and reception, climb from €2,000 to €3,000.

The advantage: everything is centralised. The disadvantage: you're often limited to the hotel's vendors, and the extras add up fast — external vendors charged separately, overtime fees, restrictions on music after a certain hour.

Option B: The Private Villa

Renting a villa with a garden, pool, and sea view for the wedding weekend. Expect €1,500 to €5,000 for two to three nights depending on size and standard. You have total freedom — but you have to organise everything yourself or through a wedding planner: caterer, décor, furniture, lighting, portable toilets if the villa can't hold the guest count.

Option C: The Public Beach

Technically, Mauritius's beaches are public. A symbolic ceremony on the beach costs nothing in itself — but you'll need a permit from the Beach Authority if you set up structures (arch, chairs, altar). And you'll need a plan B for wind or rain.

For a civil ceremony on the beach, the registrar comes to you for a fee of 1,500 Mauritian rupees (around €30).

Line 2: Catering and Drinks

In Mauritius, catering rates are significantly lower than in mainland France.

Estimated cost per person (seated dinner, excluding drinks): €40 to €80 depending on the level of service. A Creole gastronomic menu with seafood and local produce sits in the middle of the range. A high-end international menu (lobster, imported foie gras) pushes toward the top.

Standing dinner cocktail: €30 to €50 per person — a popular option that lightens the budget while creating a more relaxed atmosphere.

Drinks: The local rum (Chamarel, New Grove, Saint Aubin) is excellent and affordable. An open bar based on local cocktails runs between €15 and €30 per person. If you want French champagne, budget a significant supplement — imported wines and spirits are heavily taxed in Mauritius.

For 50 guests, dinner + drinks: expect between €3,500 and €6,000.

In France, the same line item for fifty guests easily reaches €5,000 to €10,000. The difference is not marginal.

Line 3: Photography and Videography

This is our territory, so we'll be both precise and transparent.

Professional photographer in Mauritius: Rates vary considerably. An experienced local photographer charges between €1,000 and €3,000 for full-day coverage (getting ready, ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, couple portrait session). International photographers based in Mauritius or premium studios range from €3,000 to €6,000.

Videographer: Between €1,000 and €3,500 for an edited wedding film. A photo + video duo often runs between €4,000 and €7,000 total.

Our advice — and we risk bias here, but sixteen years of experience give us the right to say it — don't sacrifice this line item. Three months after the wedding, when the flowers have wilted, the cake has been digested, and the dress is stored away, the photos are all that remain. They are the living memory of your day. A good photographer isn't an expense — it's an investment in the memory.

Line 4: Floral Décor

Mauritius is a giant tropical garden. Flowers grow here with a generosity that Europe simply doesn't know.

Bridal bouquet: €80 to €200 depending on the arrangement (orchids, anthuriums, tropical roses, frangipani).

Ceremony décor (floral arch, aisle, petals): €300 to €1,500.

Centrepieces and reception décor: €200 to €1,000 depending on the number of tables and the level of elaboration.

Average total floral budget: €600 to €2,500.

In France, a single floral arch can easily exceed a thousand euros. In Mauritius, that same arch, loaded with spectacular tropical flowers, costs a fraction of the price — because the flowers didn't cross a continent in a refrigerated truck.

Line 5: The Wedding Planner

Local wedding planner in Mauritius: €1,000 to €4,000 depending on the scope of services (day-of coordination vs. full planning).

For a destination wedding, we strongly recommend this expense. A local wedding planner is your eyes, ears, and hands on the island when you're ten thousand kilometres away. They negotiate local rates (often better than you could), manage the unexpected, coordinate vendors, and save you from mistakes that cost dearly.

Line 6: The Officiant and Legal Formalities

Civil marriage formalities in Mauritius: The government fees are minimal — around €30 for an out-of-office ceremony. Legal fees for the oath and formalities at the Supreme Court add between €100 and €300 depending on the provider.

Officiant for a symbolic ceremony: €300 to €800 depending on the professional.

Apostille of documents in France: Free (Court of Appeal).

Certified translation (if needed): €30 to €50 per document.

Line 7: Music and Entertainment

DJ: €500 to €1,500 for the evening.

Live band (sega, jazz, acoustic): €800 to €2,500 depending on the formation and duration.

Solo musician for the ceremony (guitarist, violinist): €200 to €500.

Sega — the traditional Mauritian music and dance — is an experience your guests will never forget. A live sega band transforms a reception into a joyful, spontaneous celebration that nothing in Europe can replicate.

Line 8: The Extras That Add Up

Here are the items couples systematically forget in their first budget — and which, together, can represent fifteen to twenty percent of the total.

Wedding cake: €200 to €800.

Hair and makeup: €150 to €400 (trial included).

Transport (chauffeur, decorated car): €100 to €300.

Stationery (invitations, menus, table plan): €200 to €600 depending on whether you print in France or Mauritius.

Tips for vendors: Budget 5 to 10% of the total — it's a mark of respect in Mauritius.

Wedding / travel insurance: €100 to €300 — strongly recommended.

What Your Guests Pay (And What They Don't)

The convention for a destination wedding is generally clear: the couple organises and finances the ceremony and reception. The guests finance their flights and accommodation.

Paris–Mauritius return flight: €600 to €1,200 per person depending on the season and how far in advance you book. Air France and Air Mauritius operate direct flights.

Accommodation (7 nights): from €500 (local guesthouse) to €3,000 (five-star resort) per person in a double room.

Some couples choose to cover part of their guests' accommodation — a generous gesture that increases attendance but strains the budget. Others negotiate group rates with a partner hotel and let guests book at those preferential rates.

The Total Budget in Three Scenarios

Scenario 1: The Elopement (2 people) Symbolic beach ceremony, photographer, bouquet, romantic dinner. Budget: €2,000 – €5,000 (excluding flights and accommodation)

Scenario 2: The Intimate Wedding (20–30 guests) Villa or hotel ceremony, caterer, photographer, décor, DJ. Budget: €8,000 – €15,000 (excluding flights and guest accommodation)

Scenario 3: The Grand Celebration (50–80 guests) Private venue, full catering, photographer + videographer, elaborate décor, live band, wedding planner. Budget: €15,000 – €30,000 (excluding flights and guest accommodation)

The Real Luxury Isn't the Price Tag

We'll end with a reflection that sixteen years of weddings have taught us.

The most memorable weddings we've ever photographed were not the most expensive ones. They were the most authentic ones. A couple barefoot on an empty beach, with only the wind and the ocean as witnesses, can experience a moment as powerful — sometimes more so — than a hundred-person reception in the island's most luxurious resort.

Money buys beautiful things. Extraordinary flowers. An unforgettable meal. A breathtaking venue. But money doesn't buy the tremor in the voice when the words come out. It doesn't buy the tear that falls. It doesn't buy the look that says everything without uttering a syllable.

Invest in what remains: the photos, your guests' experience, the quality of the food, the beauty of the venue. Save on what fades: the décor details nobody notices, the extras that impress on the invoice but not in memory.

And above all — above all — don't let the budget become an obstacle to the dream. Mauritius welcomes every budget. The sea is no more beautiful in front of a five-star hotel than in front of a guesthouse. The sunset doesn't check the price of your package before painting the sky orange.

The most beautiful day of your life doesn't depend on what you spend. It depends on what you feel.
